Linden Hills History Study Group

The Linden Hills History Study Group sponsors walking tours,
slide shows, field trips and lectures about the rich history of our
Southwest Minneapolis Neighborhood.



All are welcome to attend. Events are published on this website,
the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council website (www.lindenhills.org)
and in the Linden Hills Line community newsletter.

Members receive postcard mailings announcing events.

Author of the newly published definitive architecture book,
"AIA Guide to the Twin Cities: the Essential Source on the 
Architecture of Minneapolis and St. Paul," Larry Millett will
present an illustrated discussion of Twin Cities architecture.

Minnehaha Creek: A History in Pictures
Deborah Morse-Kahn will present an illustrated program
on the early days of Minnehaha Creek, from its source at
Lake Minnetonka’s
Grays Bay to the Mississippi River.

Tour the Historic Purcell-Cutts House
Meticulously restored by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts,
the 1913 home
was the personal residence of Prairie School
architect William Gray Purcell
.

The Gates Mansion - "Cottage on the Lake"
Bob Glancy, local historian and house history expert, will
present
an illustrated program about Charles and Florence
Gates and their
38,000 square foot "cottage" on Lake of
the Isles, considered to be the
largest home ever built
in Minneapolis.

Jay Walljasper, author of of the "Great Neighborhood Book"
will discuss what we and our neighbors can do together to find

Down at the Lake – our history book

Down at the Lake – A Historical Portrait of Linden Hills and the Lake Harriet District
 is a soft-cover book that includes 116 pages of informative text, maps
and dozens of historic photos of the history that shaped our neighborhood.
The award-winning book was published by the Linden Hills History Study Group in 2001.
The book includes four walking tours that may also be downloaded (see below).

Join the Linden Hills History Study Group!

We invite you to become a member of the Linden Hills History Study Group.
Membership fees help cover printing and postage costs
for announcement postcards as well as occasional facility fees.

The $10 per household membership fee includes free admission (normally $3/person)
to most History Study Group events as well as event announcement postcards in the mail.
Some field trips to museums require an admission fee.
